DEI

Diversity • Equity • Inclusion

Diversity, equity & inclusion are embedded values in my teaching style. I center equity in my classrooms, as a colleague, and as a leader. My personal experiences inform my professional ethics. I am a first-generation college graduate, which means my career hasn’t been short of straight up hustle. It hasn’t been easy, but the silver lining is the instrumental skills I’ve acquired while working multiple part-time jobs in retail, restaurants, security while in college. When I graduated, I was fortunate to secure an industry job, but my calling is education.

While developing the necessary skills to become an effective teacher and researcher, I’ve obtained experience in industry, higher education, secondary education, and in DEI consulting. Several difficult experiences along the way thwarted me into this work, which I’ve now done for a decade.
Like you, I hold several identities, some visible, others not as much. What you can probably tell from my digital footprint is that I’m a Black man from the hood who’s now a professor and multidisciplinary professional. I’m also a husband, a dad to 2 bubbly Black girls, and I’m trans. 🏳️‍⚧️
My background and who I’ve evolved into informs my praxis as a DEI professional.
